The Worshippers

Acrylic, watercolour and colouring pencil on canvas

The piece is inspired by a series of works in the Hunt Museum: Olmec Man (L003); Statuette of a Baboon (MG005); Wine Strainer (HCA 678); Antrim Cross (HCA 627). A man and his pet monkey visit and pray at the grave of an unknown person.

The grave seems to be forgotten and in the middle of nowhere, in a post-apocalyptic world where everything has been destroyed. He wears a strainer on his head: he had to scrape together what little armour he could at the last minute. The grave and the worshippers give a sense of hope to the barren landscape.

Red Cross Kingdom

Acrylic, watercolour, pencil, pen, and collage on paper

The piece is inspired by a series of temporary exhibitions at the Hunt Museum: Michael Collins, ‘Baker Place at Dawn’, Curator’s Choice, December 2018; Limerick: My City, My Home and The Weather Gauge.

The drawing is about a mystical world that has been invaded by dragons. They burn the beautiful kingdom to the ground and the world will never be the same again.
